The UCL ATSLab is a partner in two new NERC-funded projects to study aviation’s non-CO2 impacts. MAGICA, led by the University of Leeds, aims to reduce the uncertainty in climate impacts from contrails and aerosol-cloud interactions, using current and future gridded projections of aviation emissions generated by the ATSLab. Contrails from SAF and H2 Combustion: from Lab Experiments to Global Mitigation Policy, led by Imperial College London, aims to to research the entire pathway from the combustion of different aviation fuels to contrail formation to global mitigation measures and policy recommendations. For this project, the ATSLab will be modelling global aviation system scenarios under different CO2 and non-CO2 related policies to better understand the strategic use of synthetic, low-carbon fuels.
